Gustine chamber honors deserving community leaders

A little bit about a lot of things:

•  Gustine’s Chamber of Commerce dinner, awards program and dance was a hit with a full house at the Al Goman Community Center Saturday evening.

As usual.

We always marvel at the turnout for the annual chamber fete, which is among the community’s most popular functions.

Whether people just want to support the chamber, want to be on hand when somebody close to them is receiving a prestigious recognition or simply enjoy a good party (or all of the above), the chamber has found the recipe for success with its dinner and dance.

FFA growing young adults prepared to thrive in the world

Though the news in our communities is not always “good,” we greatly enjoy any opportunity to share with our readers the many positive things happening on the West Side.

This week, we are pleased to do just that by publishing the annual section which pays tribute to the FFA chapters at Gustine and Orestimba high schools.

The respective chapters are an important part of campus life......and without exception the students who choose to become actively involved speak positively of the opportunities made possible through FFA.

"Voter rights" forcing change in GUSD

A little bit about a lot of things:

•  Looks like trustee area elections are in the future for the Gustine Unified School District after all.....which is absolutely ridiculous.

You can thank a 9-year-old “voter rights” law and a high-powered legal group that has successfully sued some public agencies and implied threats of litigation against others (including Gustine) for an upcoming change in the local process......a change that I feel actually limits voter rights, apparently in the name of equality.

Culinary channel makes cooking a spectator sport

How do you top the thrill and excitement of two battled-tested foes going toe to toe in the trenches with all the marbles on the line?

The tension builds as the clock winds down toward the moment when a newly-crowned champion celebrates, seconds in time when one mistake spells disaster or a stroke of genius in the clutch snatches an improbable victory from the jaws of nearly certain defeat.

Those are the moments from which legends emerge, decisions and events to be discussed and dissected around office water coolers for weeks to come.
