4-H, FFA members earn array of county fair honors PDF Print E-mail

Crows Landing 4-H, Newman 4-H and Newman FFA were well represented at the Stanislaus County Fair. Many awards were earned by members in each of the local clubs in the livestock and exhibition competitions including best of show, grand championships and outstanding exhibitor honors. Results received from the clubs are listed below.

Crows Landing 4-H

Cooking

Laura Bento, Nathan Bento, Hunter Riddle and Mackenzie Riddle each earned multiple first and second place awards for their entries of cookies, muffins, preserves and dried apples.

Photography

Eric George, Laura Bento and Trevor Beach each earned multiple first and second place awards for their entries.

Meat Goat Project

Lacey Landeros, third; Megan Landeros, seventh; Eric George, fourth; Andrew Thiessen, ninth; Ashley Dove, seventh; and Trevor Beach, fourth.

Goat Showmanship

Novice: Trevor Beach participated.

Intermediate Class: Megan Landeros, fifth; Ashley Dove, seventh.

Advanced Class: Eric George, third; Lacey Landeros, fourth; and Andrew Thiessen, seventh.

Newman 4-H Club

Arts and Crafts

Katrina Schmidt, Mikaela Tosta, Jacquelyn Mello, Maxwell Sciarini, Drew Sciarini, Jeremy Michener, Josephine Spears, Miranda Stearns and Keith Keller each earned first place awards for their assortment of entries.

Photography

Jocelyn Schmidt, first place; Laura Swalley, four first place awards; Anthony Drumonde, Jacquelyn Mello, Jeremy Michener and  Miranda Stearns each won second place awards.

Sewing

Eleanor Piccirillo, Jacquelyn Mello and Miranda Stearns each earned second place awards.

Cooking

Jacquelyn Mello, best of show; Jocelyn Schmidt, Katrina Schmidt and Laura Swalley each earned first place awards.

Primary Projects

James Mello, Joshua Spears, Brian Swalley, Eric Schmidt, Harrison Chang, Maxwell Stearns, Hannah Bedford, Sarah Bedford, David Drumonde and Danica Keller each received special awards.

Jr. Fine Arts

Brian Swalley earned two first place awards.

Rabbits

Showmanship: Anthony Drumonde, eleventh; Laura Swalley participated.

Breed: Anthony Drumonde, two first places and best of opposite variety; Laura Swalley, first, second and fifth place awards.

Holstein Heifers

Anthony Drumonde and Mikaela Tosta participated in showmanship and breed.

Meat Goats

Brett Rose placed first showing Trevor Beach’s goat.

Kiddie Showmanship

David Drumonde participated in rabbits and heifer.

Newman FFA

Meat Goats

Michael Avalos, FFA grand champion, eighth place novice showmanship; Edgar Garcia, eighth place goat; Francicsco Navarrete, fourth place in weight class; Miguel De La Cruz, seventh in weight class and made it to final round of showmanship; and Cameron Rocha; eighth in weight class, outstanding meat goat exhibitor.

Sheep

Carlee Sterling, first place heavyweight crossbreed, second in novice showmanship, first place in lads & ladies.

Poultry

Carlee Sterling, best of division pigeon, first in advanced showmanship, outstanding poultry exhibitor.

Rabbits

Carlee Sterling, grand champion fryer, best of breed Californian, first place showmanship. Newman FFA won clean barn award for rabbits.

Dairy

Carlee Sterling; five Jerseys  made it to the champion drive, fifth place Holstein in class.

Still exhibits

Carlee Sterling; best of show for leather stool.

Swine

Jazmine Garcia; honorable mention in novice showmanship class.
