George Homen age 84 of Newman passed away Saturday at his residence.
Mr. Homen was a native of Gustine and a lifetime resident of Gustine and Newman. He was the son of Frank and Rosa Homen immigrants of Sao Jorge, Azores. He graduated from Gustine High School Class of 1942 and attended trade school at Modesto Junior College. He was an Electrician for 50 years and a member of the IBEW Union and was employed at Collins Electric, Ed Hollins Electric and Larson & Cardoso Electric, also he was a Walnut Farmer. He was a parishoner of Our Lady of Miracles Catholic Church in Gustine. He served in the US Marine Corps, and he was a member of the VFW Post No.7635 of Gustine, the Gustine Lions Club, the Gustine High School Boosters and the Native Sons. He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing and his dog Shorty.
Mr. Homen is survived by his son, Tom Homen and wife Marilyn of Newman; daughter, Maggie Sutton and husband Dave of Turlock; brother, Frank Homen of Gustine and grandchildren; Tammy Cunha of Modesto, Georgette Homen of Stevinson, Jonathan Granato of Turlock, Amy Sutton of Turlock; and great-grandson, Chase Cunha. He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Homen; sisters, Rose Montegani and Evelyn Viera.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, followed by a Rosary at 7:00 pm, Thursday, August 28th at Our Lady of Miracles Catholic Church in Gustine. A visitation will be at 9:00 am followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 am, Friday, August 29th at Our Lady of Miracles Catholic Church in Gustine. Interment will follow at Hills-Ferry Cemetery in Newman.
