NEWMAN – Enrollment in the Newman-Crows Landing Unified School District continued to climb last week, pushing to the 2,700-student mark by late in the second week of the new school year.
That is a gain of nearly 50 students from the ending enrollment of last spring, Superintendent Rick Fauss noted, and leaves Newman-Crows Landing as one of the few districts in the region reporting an enrollment gain.
A good portion of the increase has come from Diablo Grande, according to Fauss.
“I think we have had a dozen (new students) come out of Diablo Grande since school has started,” he said recently.
Enrollment from Diablo Grande is fast approaching a point where the district may need to add a second bus run to the West Side resort community, Fauss noted.
He estimated that 70-80 Newman-Crows Landing students reside in Diablo Grande.
Fauss said the district was looking at options to alleviate any classroom overcrowding from the increased enrollment. |
