Gustine’s JV Lady Redskins continued their journey through the WAC with three match-ups last week.
Gustine was unable to keep pace with the Livingston Wolves as the busy stretch of the schedule opened Tuesday, falling short 51-9.
“Livingston is a good team with some really good shooters,” Coach
Kathy Borba noted. “They were really tough on defense and we had some
difficulty getting good shots.”
Bridgette Brady led the Lady Redskins with four points. Laken Leonard added three and Magaly Garcia chipped in two.
Central Catholic 49, GHS 18
The Lady Redskins looked to upset the Central Catholic Raiders in their second game of the week but were turned away early.
Thalia Fabian and Garcia each had four points for Gustine. Shannon Goularte and Brady each contributed three.
“This was just not a good night for us,” Borba mentioned. “We were
not well prepared and we gave them too many opportunities later in the
game.”
Hilmar 42, GHS 15
The Lady Redskins wrapped up their three game week on Saturday, hosting the Hilmar Yellowjackets.
The two teams appeared to be well matched in the early stages of the game as Gustine took a 3-2 lead into the second period.
Hilmar took control before halftime, though, and kept the game out of reach until the final buzzer.
Leonard led the Lady Redskins with seven points. Goularte and Garcia each had two and Brady added a free throw.
“We had a pretty good first half and we kept it pretty close,” Borba
noted. “We got in trouble in the second half with turnovers and fouls.”
