Volleyball programs at Orestimba and Gustine high schools and Gustine and Yolo middle schools will be taking part in “Dig Pink” matches in the coming season to raise public awareness on breast cancer and funds for cancer research.

The schools are working together on the event, which includes designated “Dig Pink” nights, fund-raising activities and an educational campaign.

“Dig Pink” volleyball matches will be held Oct. 1 (Yolo at GMS), Oct. 12 (GMS at Yolo, GHS at OHS, all matches at Orestimba), and Oct. 28 (OHS at GHS).

The schools are co-hosting a takeout linguica dinner from 4-7 p.m. at Orestimba High School on Oct. 12. Tickets are $7 and may be purchased from any Orestimba, Yolo, Gustine High or Gustine Middle School player.

Breast cancer patients and survivors will be special guests of honor. Community members wishing to add somebody to the “pink list” may contact Angie Mackovich at Yolo Middle School.

At the Oct. 12 matches, women will also be able to register for the mammogram van visit to the Newman Family Resource Center later in October.

Admission proceeds from each designated match will be donated to the Side-Out Foundation.

Community members can support the campaign through the local activities or by donating on line to the Side-Out Foundation web site.
