The sun came out today (Tuesday) YAY!!! It wasn’t for long but it sure made a great impression! The storm that is hitting California is supposed to bring lots of snow in the mountains and rain up north which is good news. Don’t know how much we’ll see of it here in the valley but at least the fog has been broken up even if only for a while. The blue sky after the rain this morning was a welcomed sight and I tried to soak up as much of the sunshine as I could before the clouds took over again. I hope you all did, too.x

I get kidded often about seeing life through rose-colored glasses, hence the title of my column, but you know, I don’t care for the alternative. There is a lot of yucky stuff happening in the world these days. A lot happening in our own communities and it can get quite depressing if I dwell on that. Instead I try to look at the other side, to find the good stuff about life and people. If that means I am wearing rose colored glasses then I am happy to wear them and choose to keep them on.

It’s not always easy. Some stuff is just awful and it’s difficult to understand why people choose to do what they do… it’s disappointing, it’s bewildering, it’s sad, but it’s also life. We are all human, we are all capable of making bad choices, we are all responsible for our actions and the consequences that follow. It’s just shocking when stuff happens and trying to reason with the hows and whys doesn’t always fit into my rose-colored view, until I remind myself that it is not up to me to judge the person or situation and there are lots of good people and stuff happening still if I take the time to look.

Like the school FFA farm under construction at Orestimba High School. I had the privilege of going out to the site this week and had a few moments to talk with the men working on the project. I don’t know them, we’d never met before, but the few moments we spoke about the project were uplifting.

We shared comments about how gratifying it is to see projects like this happening, especially in today’s economy, and how beneficial the farm will be to the FFA program, local students and the community as a whole.

The masonry work on two tack rooms was being done that day and as we stood there talking for a moment you could get a mental picture of what it will soon be like filled with animals and kids and all of their equipment. It felt good to have that to look forward to even though I don’t have children in school anymore. It’s part of my community, and the kids who will be using that farm are part of my community, so yay, something positive to dwell on.

And, hopefully, we will see more of the rain from this winter storm, maybe even a rainbow, wouldn’t that be nice!
