Patsy Gerturde Morgan Lewis, 80, passed away Jan. 30.
Mrs. Lewis was a resident of Gustine for many years, where she and her husband operated Lewis Plumbing & Electric.
The following paid obituary notice ran in the Feb. 4 issue of the West Side Index and Gustine Press-Standard:
On January 30, 2010 in Gustine, California, Patsy Gertrude Morgan Lewis, 80, surrounded by her loving family, peacefully joined her Heavenly Father. She had congestive heart failure.
Patsy was born on April 22, 1929 in Bald Hill, Oklahoma. She grew up on a farm and attended schools in Natura and Preston, Oklahoma graduating in 1948. In 1949, she moved to Hominy, Oklahoma to live with her aunt Opal Hammons where she helped with daily childcare of her nieces and nephew. She moved to California to live with her aunt Pearl Ballinger in 1950, where she met her husband, Othell Lewis.
They were married on September 10, 1950 in Gustine and lived in the surrounding area until settling in Gustine in 1954 working for Larson & Cardoza and then Holton Plumbing and Sheet Metal. They later purchased Holton Plumbing and renamed the business, Lewis Plumbing & Electric, where she assisted in the office and kept the candy jar full for the younger visitors. After retirement, she and Othell moved to a home that they designed and built in Twain Harte, CA. There they enjoyed hosting gatherings for family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1992 after 41 years of marriage. Patsy enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends. She, especially, enjoyed attending Southern Gospel concerts when and wherever she was able. She was known for her devotion to Jesus Christ and lived her life accordingly. She was a nurturing mother and a role model for her sons, daughters-in-law, grandchildren and great granddaughter. She was involved with the Women’s Ministry Council at her churches, Gustine Assembly of God (West Side Christian Center) and Young At Heart at Christian Heights in Sonora. She was known for her excellent cooking, especially pies.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her mother Syble Fleetwood, a brother, Jackie and a sister, Mildred.
She is survived by two sons; Stan Lewis & wife Beth of Siloam Springs, Arkansas (& former ex-patriot in American Samoa), Phil Lewis & wife Melodie of Gustine. Five grandchildren: Shawnta Lewis of Modesto, Desmond Lewis & wife Kristen of Modesto, Rebekah Lewis of Russellville, Arkansas, Samuel Lewis of Gustine and Charles Lewis of Gustine. One great-granddaughter: Mariah Hernandez of Modesto.
She is also survived by one sister, Wanda (John) Frick of Bowie, Maryland; 3 brothers: Mickey (Margaret) Fleetwood of Beggs, Oklahoma, Fred (Patsy) Fleetwood of Mounds, Oklahoma, Jimmy (Sharron) Fleetwood of Morris, Oklahoma and many nieces and nephews.
Viewing will take place Thursday night February 4, from 5-7 PM at Heuton Memorial Chapel in Sonora.
Services will be held on February 5 at 11:00 a.m. at Christian Heights Assembly of God Church in Sonora. Interment immediately following the service at Mountain Shadow Cemetery in Sonora.
