The Lady Warriors headed into spring break on a winning note last week, improving their conference mark to 3-2 with wins over Gustine and Central Catholic.
Orestimba opened the week with a 6-3 victory over rival Gustine.
The Lady Redskins had the better of the early going, striking for two runs in the top of the first, but from that point the momentum swung in Orestimba’s favor.
The Lady Warriors evened things up with two runs in the second. Cassie Garcia and Gabby Morales delivered base hits in that inning.
Orestimba tacked on two more runs in the third, taking advantage of a
walk to Roxanne Corella and a base hit by Donna Anthieny.
Doubles by Carlee Felber and Anthieny helped the Lady Warriors add
two more runs in the fifth. Orestimba had a chance to blow it open in
that inning, but left the bases loaded.
That was more than enough offense for pitcher Corella and the Lady
Warriors. Gustine managed an unearned run in the sixth, but was unable
to threaten the Orestimba lead.
Felber and Anthieny each ahad two hits in the game.
OHS 4, Central Catholic 2
The Lady Warriors made a four-run second stand for a victory over
visiting Central Catholic Thursday.
Errors played prominently in the scoring for both teams.
Orestimba miscues led to a single Raider run in each of the first two
innings. Central Catholic threatened further damage, but left runners
stranded in scoring position in both frames.
An error in the bottom of the second opened the floodgates for the
Lady Warriors. Before the inning was out, Orestimba had capitalized on
three errors, a hit batter and a clutch triple by Chelsea DeLeon to put a
four-spot on the board.
A DeLeon double in the fifth would be Orestimba’s only hit over the
final four innings, but the Lady Warriors kept the Raiders off the board
to put the win in the books.
