Madeline L. Gomes, 79, of Gustine, passed away June 7 at Memorial Hospital, Los Banos.
Mrs. Gomes was a native of Atwater. She lived in Gustine for 58 years, where she was a homemaker.
She was a parishioner at Our Lady of Miracles Catholic Church. Mrs. Gomes was a founding member of Journey in Christianity Church (Cursillo), and was a member of the Catholic Daughters, YLI, Eucharistic Ministry and Gustine Historical Society.
She is survived by two sons, Jerome “Butch” Gomes Jr. of Gustine and John M. Gomes of Fresno; four daughters, Annamarie Brooks and Kathy Gomes, both of Gustine, Christine Hernandez of Idaho and Gerianne Jones of Modesto; a brother, Anthony Silveira of Ohio; two sisters, Mary Ann Worden of Salinas and Clara McCall of Merced; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome L. Gomes, a daughter, Patti Lyman, her twin sister, Maria Silveira, and siblings Olivia Vierra, Barbara Pedrozo and Robert Silveira.
Visitation will be today (Thursday) from 5-7 p.m. at OLM Church, with a rosary to follow.
A second visitation will be at 9 a.m. Friday at the church, followed by a mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m.
Burial will be in Hills Ferry Cemetery.
