GUSTINE – The community’s Salvation Army Committee is seeking volunteer bell-ringers for its upcoming kettle campaign. Chairman Eric Weidman said the fund drive will run six days, from Dec. 19-24, but raises money that helps deliver services to those in need year-round. Weidman said the kettle drive needs individuals to volunteer for two-hour shifts during those days. Clubs and other organizations may volunteer to staff a kettle for a full day or more. The traditional red kettles are located in front of Diamond Food Center and the Gustine Post Office. In the past, Salvation Army Committee member Alvin Amaral said, the organization has had to shorten its kettle campaign due to lack of volunteers. Money raised locally comes back several times over from regional Salvation Army headquarters to support local services, he noted. Community members may contact Weidman, (916) 501-7416, Loretta Strickler, 854-3737, or Amaral, 620-6502, for additional information about volunteering or becoming active in the Salvation Army Committee. |
