Newman 4-H brings home awards from Stanislaus Fair

The Newman 4-H Club had an amazing two weeks at the Stanislaus County Fair.

In the Registered Jersey Show, Trace Bert placed 1st and second with his 4-year-old milk cows and was awarded Reserve Champion 4-year-old. Bert placed 4th in the Winter calf class and was awarded Reserve Champion Jersey Replacement Heifer, he also placed 5th in intermediate dairy showmanship.

Avery Bert placed 1st with her 3-year-old milk cow and her Fall Calf and was awarded Champion Jersey 3-year-old.  The daughter dam entry placed 2nd.  Bert exhibited and sold a Holstein replacement heifer.

In the Grade Dairy Show, exhibiting grade Jerseys, Marlayna Barcellos placed 3rd with her Spring Calf and 4th with her Fall Calf.  Hunter Barcellos placed 3rd with his Fall Calf and 6th with his Winter Calf.

Olivia Casey exhibited two Old English Game Hens, placing 1st and 3rd.  Her 1st place hen was awarded Best Bantam and Reserve Game Bird. Casey placed 6th in Advanced Poultry Showmanship.

In the cavy competition, Olivia Casey placed 1st with her senior black American boar.  The boar went on to be named Best Senior in Breed, Best of Breed Black and Best in Show Cavy.  Casey placed first in Advanced Cavy Showmanship.

In the breeding rabbit competition, Emily Drumonde placed 2nd with her Sr. Himalayan Black Buck. Drumonde placed 5th in Intermediate rabbit showmanship.  Olivia Casey placed 1st and Best Opposite of Variety with her Himalayan Black Buck; her Black does placed 2nd and 3rd. Casey’s Blue Himalayan Senior Buck place 1st, was named Best in Variety and Best Opposite of Breed; Casey’s Blue does placed 1st and 2nd.   

In the Lilac division, Olivia Casey placed 1st and 2nd with her senior bucks, and was awarded Best Opposite of Breed; Casey’s senior does placed 1st and 2nd, with her junior doe placing 1st and being awarded Best of Breed.  Casey placed 3rd in Advanced rabbit showmanship.

Emily Drumonde and Olivia Casey each received 1st place in their divisions in the Educational Display competition.

In the Arts and Crafts competition, Folkart member Emily Drumonde placed with 

1-1st, Olivia Casey placed with 3-1st and 2-2nds.  In the arts and crafts competition, Bryan Berbereia received 1st and 2-2nd place awards; Raylen Barcellos, Hunter Barcellos, Marlayna Barcellos and Evan Martins each received 1-1st place award.

Brian Casey and Max Barcellos exhibited 4 Primary Crafts, while McKinley Silveira entered 3.

In the photography division, Olivia Casey placed with 9-1st place awards, 3-2nds and 3-3rds; Emily Drumonde received 1-1st and 3-3rds; Addie Martins placed with 1-1st and 1 -3rd; Noah Martins received 1-1st, while Evan Martins placed with 1-3rd.

Max Barcellos and McKinley Silveira each participated in Primary Photography with two entries.

Bella Berbereia received 1st in the advanced foods competition, with Bryan Berbereia placing second in the intermediate division.

In the still project competitions, Archery members, Andres Gutierrez, Hunter Barcellos, Evan Martins, Raylen Barcellos, Noah Martins, Bryan Berbereia and Marlayna Barcellos exhibited their final target, each placing 3rd.

Newman 4-H members are preparing for the 2024-2025 program year. Enrollment and re-enrollment begins Aug. 1.
