Hunt & Sons LLC, a California-based petroleum products distributor, is closing the facilities in Newman and Modesto and laying off 24 employees, according to a letter submitted to the Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors.

The company submitted a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification letter to the board to announce the permanent layoff of employees at their facilities at 746 Merced St. in Newman and 720 B St. in Modesto.

“The separations of the affected employees are expected to occur in one wave,” the letter from Hunt & Sons LLC’s Human Resources Manager Terry Hughes stated. “Consistent with these plans, the last day of employment for the affected employees is anticipated to be Jan. 1, 2025, or within 14 days thereafter.”

The layoffs will impact 20 drivers, two lead drivers, one plant manager and one mechanic. None of the employees are represented by a union and all the layoffs will be permanent, according to the company.

Operating from its headquarters in Sacramento, Hunt & Sons, Inc. is a family-owned business and has been in operation for more than 75 years, according to their website. Hunt & Sons owns and operates 13 office and warehouse facilities, 38 commercial cardlock fueling sites, and more than 450 employees.
