The City of Gustine announced the return of its regular street sweeping service, which officially resumed on Dec. 9. This long-awaited initiative aims to enhance the cleanliness and safety of Gustine’s streets while promoting a healthier and more sustainable community environment.

The street sweeping program will follow a consistent weekly schedule, with services running from 5 a.m. to 12 p.m. The city has been divided into three service zones to ensure thorough and equitable coverage:

• Tuesdays: Blue Zone (West side of the city)

• Wednesdays: Green Zone (North and East areas)

• Thursdays: Yellow Zone (South central neighborhoods)

Residents can view the detailed zone map and schedule through the City of Gustine’s Document Center or website.

To ensure the program operates efficiently, residents are encouraged to take the following steps on their designated street sweeping day:

1. Move Vehicles: All vehicles must be removed from the street by 5:00 a.m. This allows sweepers to thoroughly clean the curb and gutter areas.

2. Remove Trash Bins: Trash, recycling, and yard waste bins should not be left on the street during sweeping hours.

3. Clear Debris: Large debris, such as branches or leaves, should be removed from curbs and gutters. Residents are advised not to sweep debris into the streets, as the sweepers cannot collect these piles.

These preparations are vital in ensuring the street sweepers can clean efficiently and effectively.

The resumption of street sweeping marks a significant improvement for Gustine’s infrastructure. After a hiatus, the buildup of litter and debris had started impacting storm drains and local waterways. By removing debris, the program not only beautifies neighborhoods but also helps protect wildlife and the health of water systems.

The city has made minor upgrades to its street sweeping equipment to ensure reliable service and anticipates that this program will greatly reduce blockages and improve street safety and appearance.
