Gustine Traveling Library headquarters reopening effort underway after water leak
gustine traveling library leak

The Gustine Traveling Library Headquarters, located at 417 5th Street, is currently undergoing repairs and restoration efforts following a significant water leak caused by a mouse chewing through a water pipe. The unfortunate incident led to part of our ceiling collapsing, resulting in extensive damage to our furniture, books, and essential supplies. However, with the support of our incredible community, we are well on our way to reopening and continuing to serve the youth of the Westside.

We are deeply grateful to A Plus Plumbing for their swift and effective response, which prevented the leak from worsening and helped us limit the damage. Additionally, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the Patterson Chamber of Commerce, Pasta 209, Gustine Club, Whichcraft Taproom, and Pizza Factory for stepping in and assisting with cleaning the building and removing the damaged items.

A special thank you goes to the Gustine Rotary for their generous donation towards our fundraising efforts to restore the building and replace the many books and supplies we lost. Their support is crucial in helping us rebuild and ensure that local youth will continue to have a safe and welcoming space to enjoy once again.

Since our founding, the Gustine Traveling Library has distributed millions in food and water aid during the pandemic and has given out over 300,000 free books to youth across Merced County and the Central Valley. We have also provided free tutoring for low-income families, ensuring that all children have access to educational resources and opportunities.

We are incredibly thankful for the unwavering love and support of our small-town community. Your generosity helps us continue the work we are so passionate about—serving the youth of the Westside and beyond.

We look forward to welcoming everyone back soon and will keep the community updated as we progress in our reopening efforts.
