As the holiday season approaches, the towns of Gustine and Newman are gearing up to bring the community together for joyful, family-friendly Christmas events.
Both the Gustine Chamber of Commerce and the Newman Chamber of Commerce have organized spectacular celebrations, each with unique activities, food, and festive traditions that promise to make this holiday season unforgettable.
The Gustine Chamber of Commerce invites everyone to its annual Old-Fashioned Downtown Christmas on Nov. 30. This daylong event will turn Main Street into a holiday wonderland with events, entertainment, and treats for all ages.
The festivities start bright and early with Breakfast with Santa at GPS Hall from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., sponsored by the Citizens of Gustine. Families can enjoy a warm breakfast while kids share their Christmas wishes with Santa. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., 5th Street will host a Craft & Vendor Fair, showcasing holiday gifts and unique items from local artisans and businesses. Meanwhile, Cornerstone Dance will hold a Christmas Tree & Wreath Silent Auction at 394 5th Street, where attendees can bid on beautifully decorated trees and wreaths to take home.
Young families can head to Santa’s Workshop at 367 5th Street from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for crafts and holiday-themed activities. Later in the afternoon, Santa himself will hold a Book Reading in front of the Christmas tree at 1 p.m., sponsored by the Gustine Chamber of Commerce. Following the reading, families can take Pictures with Santa at Gustine Lions Park on Main Street.
As the evening sets in, the community is invited to gather for Free S’mores and hot cocoa in downtown from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., courtesy of the Gustine Recreation, Fire, and Police Departments and the Gustine Lions Club. The event will culminate with the highly anticipated Christmas Tree Lighting, entertainment and parade at the intersection of 5th Street and 4th Avenue at 6 p.m., featuring floats, local groups, and, of course, a visit from Santa Claus.
In the spirit of giving, the Gustine Lions Club and Miss Gustine Court will be hosting a Canned Food and Toy Drive to support families in need in Gustine and Santa Nella. Attendees are encouraged to bring a toy or canned food item to help make the holidays brighter for those less fortunate.
Newman’s holiday spirit will be on full display the following week with the Christmas Tree Lighting event hosted by the Newman Chamber of Commerce on Dec. 7. This festive celebration will take place at the Downtown Plaza from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., welcoming families and friends to share in the joy of the season.
The event will feature a vibrant lineup of food and artisan vendors, perfect for picking up holiday treats and handcrafted gifts. Live entertainment will fill the air, creating a festive ambiance that complements the holiday decorations and community warmth. A special highlight for families is the chance to take pictures with Mr. and Mrs. Claus, providing children with memorable holiday photos.
At 6 p.m., the Downtown Plaza will come to life as Newman’s grand Christmas tree is illuminated, marking the official start of the holiday season in town. This cherished tradition brings together neighbors, friends, and visitors to celebrate the season and share in the magic of the tree lighting.
The Newman Chamber of Commerce is currently accepting applications for food and artisan vendors. Those interested in participating can apply by emailing newmanchamber.ca@gmail.com or visiting the State Farm office at 1404 Main Street, Newman.
Both Gustine and Newman invite everyone to join in these festive celebrations, creating a joyous atmosphere filled with holiday cheer, community spirit, and wonderful memories. These events offer something for everyone, from crafts and treats to holiday shopping and the joy of giving.
