Newman has a new boutique that's more than just a store - it's a family's effort come to life. Pretty Thrift Co., nestled in a cozy corner of the downtown Newman plaza, represents a mother's passion for thrifting and her desire to create something beautiful for her community.
The shop, curated entirely by the owner, Susie Ochoa and her three daughters, offers carefully selected women's, men's, and children's clothing, along with jewelry and home decor - all sourced through thrifting adventures.
"This isn't just a typical thrift store," said Ochoa. “I wanted a place that felt cozy and for them to feel like they were shopping in a luxurious place but not with the expensive prices. And I wanted it to be pretty to inject a little pretty into people’s lives.’
Ochoa was looking to transition from being a stay-at-home mom when the opportunity arose to transform her lifelong love of thrifting into a meaningful venture.
“I’m not a person that can just stay put,” Ochoa said. “This was my chance and it felt so easy to say yes to it.”
Her three daughters have been integral to the process, helping select pieces and even encouraging her entrepreneurial spirit.
“We’d be in an aisle and have a cart full of clothes and we were just giggling and saying yes or no,” Ochoa recalled. “The rule was that if it got three yeses then it came to the shop.”
With an eye for quality and aesthetics, the shop focuses on near-new items, vintage pieces, and unique finds. Ochoa’s vision extends beyond sales - she hopes to create a space that makes people feel special and offers affordable, stylish options. And if it’s something that she doesn’t have on the store, Ochoa said to just let her know what you are seeking and she’ll go on the hunt.
“If someone is having difficulty finding something, I’ll help them,” Ochoa said. “I love to make people feel special and thought of.”
