Over 160 kids and their families made their way to Harry Schmidt Park’s duck pond on Sunday for annual Kids Fishing Derby.

Nobody won the prize fish award, however, there were four bicycle winners: Emmeline Sedillo, Dutton Rodgers, Brynn Pires and Damian Perez. The bikes were donated by the Gustine Chamber of Commerce.

Of the 160 kids who participated in the fishing derby, 71 were from Gustine or Santa Nella. The out-of-town participants came from Los Banos, Newman, Hilmar, Patterson, Turlock, Atwater and even as far away as Salinas and Santa Cruz.

The Gustine Parks & Recreation said the event couldn’t have been possible without the efforts of the city’s Public Works crew who made sure the irrigation and fountains were in top shape and the pond was beautiful. Community volunteers included Daniel Gomes, Tianah Vitorino, Garrett Gomes, Christina Navarro and Alexis Gallichio.
