The holiday season was made a little brighter for 41 children in Gustine, thanks to the generosity and community spirit of Saputo employees.

For the second year, Saputo, a leading dairy company, organized a heartwarming initiative to give away bikes and helmets to kids in need, ensuring they have a memorable and safe holiday.

The story began with Saputo's employees, who decided to raise funds through their recycling program. Every bottle, can, and piece of recyclable material collected contributed to a growing fund aimed at making a difference in their community. The employees' dedication and hard work paid off, and they managed to raise a significant amount of money.

“It really is an employee-driven effort that the entire plant participates in through the whole year,” said Lynette Koons, an administrative assistant at the Saputo factory in Gustine.

Recognizing the employees' efforts and the potential impact of their initiative, Saputo decided to match the funds raised. This generous gesture doubled the amount available, allowing the company to purchase 41 brand-new bikes and helmets. The bikes were carefully selected to suit children of various ages, ensuring that each child would receive a gift that was just right for them.

Saputo finds the children in need by working with the Gustine Unified School District. This year the bicycles went to children from toddlers up to teenagers.

The giveaway event was held at the Gustine facility from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday. Children and their families gathered, eagerly awaiting the moment they would receive their new bikes. The joy on the children's faces as they received their gifts was a testament to the success of the initiative. For many of these kids, this was their first bike, a symbol of freedom and adventure.

“It’s pretty wonderful getting to see the kids get their bikes,” said Koons.

Saputo's commitment to the community goes beyond this single event. The company's recycling program not only promotes environmental sustainability but also fosters a sense of unity and purpose among its employees.

The impact of this initiative will be felt long after the holiday season. The bikes and helmets provide not only a source of fun and exercise but also a means of transportation that can help children get to school or visit friends. For the families, it is a reminder that they are part of a caring community that looks out for one another.
