The 9th Annual Thanksgiving Dinner at Green Acres was held on Nov. 23, bringing together veterans and seniors for a warm meal and a sense of community. This year’s event, organized by Westside 4H and local volunteers, continues to foster gratitude and connection among Gustine’s neighbors.
Jonny Rocha, the Reporter for Westside 4H in Gustine and a six-year member of the organization, shared his insights about the significance of the dinner. Having been involved in the event for three years, Rocha reflected on what makes this tradition so special.
“It’s important because it allows people to come together, and it gives us an opportunity to provide something for others that they might not always get,” Rocha explained. The dinner, which includes both a sit-down event at Green Acres and home-delivered meals for those unable to attend, aims to reach every corner of the community.
For Rocha, delivering meals to homes has been the highlight of his involvement. “Being able to deliver meals to people that aren’t able to come to the actual event is my favorite part,” he said. “It’s rewarding to bring something special directly to someone’s door and know that it brightened their day.”
In addition to the traditional Thanksgiving spread of turkey, stuffing, and all the fixings, the event is enriched by the camaraderie and fellowship it fosters. Volunteers from all walks of life come together to prepare and serve the meals, showcasing the strong community bonds that make Gustine a special place.
When asked if he had anything else to share, Rocha expressed his gratitude for being part of the event. “I’d like readers to know how meaningful it is to be able to do something for others,” he said. “Events like this remind us of the importance of giving back and supporting our neighbors.”
