Shelter Adoption

The Newman Animal Shelter is hosting an adoption event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Nov. 9.

The adoption event will be at the L.J. Memorial Building at 649 Orestimba Road.

Adoption fees will be $20.

 

Veterans Annual Christmas Dinner

The Veterans annual Christmas Dinner will be held at 6 p.m. Dec. 17 at the Veterans Memorial Hall in Gustine.

Tickets are $30 and can be purchased by calling 209-829-5074. Ticket sales end Dec. 9.

 

American Legion Auxiliary

American Legion Auxiliary Manuel M. Lopes Unit 240 meeting will be at 7 p.m. Nov. 14 at the Green Acres Clubhouse in Gustine, For more information call Audrey McIntyre at 209-854-6094 and Maryann Watson 209-854-6672.

 

Newman Library

The Newman Library will host Lego day from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 7.

A Thanksgiving turkey craft day will be held from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Nov. 12.

 

Native Sons of the Golden West

The Native Sons of the Golden West will hold their Parlor meeting on Nov. 7 at the Veteran’s Memoria Hall in Gustine. Those wishing to visit and play cards ca come at 5 p.m. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. with Bingo to follow.

New members no longer have to be born in California, just U.S. citizens.

Friends of the Newman Library

The Friends of the Newman Library will hold their monthly meeting at 4 p.m. on Nov. 6 at the Newman Library.

 

 

Color Run

The upcoming 5K Color Run/Walk will take place on Nov. 9, during Veteran’s Weekend at Harry Schmidt Park in Gustine. The event kicks off at 8 a.m. with vendors, followed by a Zumba session at 8:30 a.m. The race itself will start at 9:00 a.m. Registration is available for $35, which includes an event t-shirt, or $20 without a t-shirt. Kids aged 5 and under can participate for free, and there are discounts available for students aged 6-17. Teams of 10 are also welcome, with the 10th participant receiving free entry. The event promises a fun and colorful experience for all ages. Be sure to register before Oct. 15 to guarantee an event t-shirt.

 

 

 

Festa Das Contas

The Shrine of Our Lady of Miracles will host the Festa Das Contas Mass at 11 a.m. on Nov. 10. It will be at GPS Hall and will be followed with sopas.

 

Mural Dedication

The Gustine Historical Society will have a mural dedication at 2 p.m. on Nov. 17.

The dedication will be at the site of the mural on the Al Goman Center at Harry Schmidt Park at 1399 Meredith Ave.

 

Newman Gustine Garden Club

The Newman Gustine Garden Club will hold their annual event, A Garden of Tables, from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. on Nov. 16 at the al Goman Center in Gustine.

 

Adult Swim

Adult Lap Swims are open on Mondays and Wednesdays to the public aged 18 and over at this time.  They now have enough support for 45 spots. The cost is $4 for adults and $3 for seniors.

Cash is accepted at the gate, but guaranteed spots can be made online at: gofan.com.

 

Gustine Museum

The Gustine Historical Society has a new exhibit opening at the Gustine Museum. The exhibit is Gustine’s POW from World War II.

Guests are invited to join the Society as they honor the Gustine veterans that were captured during WWII and the hardships they had to endure. The veterans are: Rudolph Bambauer, Donald Bloom Clarence Nightengale, Jimmy Borrelli, Wilbur Gomes and Frank Farr. The exhibit is ongoing.

The museum is located at 397 Fourth Street on Highway 33. It is open from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays. Admission is free. The museum is currently closed on Thursdays because of the ongoing roundabout construction project.

 

Newman Recreation Department

The Newman Recreation Department hosts dance therapy classes at the L.J. Newman Memorial Building every Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

The martial arts class of Kajukenbo is taught every Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the L.J. Newman Memorial Building.
