Sept. 11 Memorial

The Westside will once again come together to honor the memory of those lost on Sept. 11, 2001 with the Annual 9/11 Memorial Walk.

The event is scheduled for Sept. 11, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Participants are asked to arrive by 7 p.m. at the Old Bowling Alley Building on Fifth Street, where the walk will commence. The route will proceed along Fifth Street to the Veterans Memorial Hall.

Community members are encouraged to bring an American flag or candle to carry during the walk as a sign of unity and remembrance. This annual event serves as a solemn occasion for the community to reflect, honor, and stand together in solidarity. For more information, please contact Zachery Ramos at (209) 585-8233.

 

Gustine Rotary

The Gustine Rotary is hosting their annual flea market from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15 at Henry Miller Park.

Items for purchase will include antiques, collectibles, vintage items, memorabilia, books, furniture, and crafts. 

Admission is free.

 

Fall Low Cost Animal Clinic

The Newman Animal Shelter will hold their semi-annual low cost animal clinic from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sept. 21 at the L.J. Memorial Building at 649 Orestimba Road.
If you are only purchasing a voucher, you do not need to bring your animal to the clinic. Vouchers are available on a first come first serve basis.
Vouchers are available for dogs under 50 pounds and no brachycephalic dogs. Contact Newman Police Department to purchase a voucher for brachycephalic dogs.
The clinic will also have pet ID tags and collars available.

Cat vouchers are $90 and includes spay/neuter, rabies, FVRCP vaccinations and microchips. Dog vouchers are $175 and includes spay/neuter, rabies and Bordetella, DAPP vaccinations and microchips.

 

American Legion Auxiliary

The American Legion Auxiliary Manuel M. Lopes Unit 240 will be meeting at 7 p.m. Sept. 12 at the Green Acres Clubhouse in Gustine. Guests are welcome. Call Audrey McIntyre at 209-854-6094 or Maryann Watson at 209-854-6672 for more information.

 

Newman Recreation Adult Co-ed Volleyball League

Registration for the 37th year of the Newman Recreation Adult Co-ed Volleyball League starts Aug. 28. League games will start Sept. 10 and 12 and be held on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays.

Each league lasts eight weeks.

Players must be 18 years or older and out of high school.

Costs are $5 per player per league and an additional $5 charge for players outside of the Newman Crows Landing Unified School District.

Gustine Museum

The Gustine Historical Society has a new exhibit opening at the Gustine Museum. The exhibit is Gustine’s POW from World War II.

Guests are invited to join the Society as they honor the Gustine veterans that were captured during WWII and the hardships they had to endure. The veterans are: Rudolph Bambauer, Donald Bloom Clarence Nightengale, Jimmy Borrelli, Wilbur Gomes and Frank Farr. The exhibit is ongoing.

The museum is located at 397 Fourth Street on Highway 33. It is open from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays and Sundays. Admission is free.

 

Gustine Historical Society

The Gustine Historical Society will hold their annual salad bar luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 23.

The cost is $15.

The luncheon will be at the Al Goman Center.

Take out will be available.

Newman Library

Lego day is set for 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 19.

The Friends of the Newman Library is sponsoring an edible ocean craft day from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 on Sept. 24 for those 8 years and older.

Tiny Tots will be from 10 a.m. each Wednesday and will be followed by Wee Move and Play at 10:30 a.m.
