Newman Fire Station

The Newman Fire Station responded to 32 calls for service from Aug. 7 to Aug. 15. The calls included 10 for Emergency Medical Services, three vehicle collisions, three vehicle fires, three potential structure fires, two mutual aid calls, one hazmat call, five false alarm calls, one vegetation fire call and four public assists.

Around 7 a.m. on Aug. 9, the Newman Fire Station was dispatched to a hazardous materials call near Interstate 5 and Fink Road. On arrival, fire crews found a semi-truck that spilled its contents on the off-ramp. The fire crews quickly blocked the roadway to redirect oncoming traffic and moved the contents off the highway.

At 8:26 p.m. on Aug. 9, the Newman Fire Station was dispatched to a mutual aid response for the Modesto Fire Department. On arrival, the fire crews covered Modesto fire stations; they ran two calls while providing coverage. The crew was committed to the aid for approximately five hours.

At 11:05 p.m. on Aug. 10, the Newman Fire Station was dispatched to a semi-truck fire near Interstate 5 and Fink Road. On arrival, the fire crews found a semi-truck fully involved with no occupants. The fire crews rapidly extinguished the fire. The cause of the fire was unknown. There were no injuries to report, and damages were not available at the time of this report.

At 6:38 a.m. on Aug. 12, the Newman Fire Station was dispatched for a single-vehicle collision near Interstate 5 and Sullivan Road. On arrival, the fire crews found a single vehicle rollover with one occupant ejected out of the vehicle. The fire crews worked diligently to secure the occupant and vehicle. The occupant had sustained significant injuries, and damages were estimated at $30,000.

 

Gustine Fire Station

The Gustine Fire Department in cooperation with Merced County Fire Department ran a total of 17 calls between Aug. 11 to Aug. 15. The calls included six for Emergency Medical Services, two vegetation fires, with one assisting Cal Fire in a state responsibility area; five alarms, three vehicle collisions and one public assist.
