Newman Fire Department
The Newman Fire Station responded to 28 calls for service from Feb. 20 to Feb. 27. The calls included 16 for Emergency Medical Services, six public assists, one commercial fire alarm call, one mutual aid alarm call, two natural gas leak calls and one vehicle collision.
At 9:44 a.m. on Feb. 20, the Newman Station was dispatched for a tree blocking the railroad tracks near Highway 33 and Sherman Parkway. On arrival, the crew found a huge limb had fallen on the tracks. The fire crews quickly notified the railroad company and removed the hazard from the railroad tracks with assistance from public works personnel.
At 9:53 a.m. on Feb. 25, the Newman Station was dispatched for a motor vehicle collision in the area of Canal School Road and Brazo Road. On arrival, the fire crews located a single overturned vehicle off the roadway. The patient was self-extricated and found at the scene. The damage estimate was not reported, and injuries were classified as minor.
