Gustine Fire Dept.
The Merced County Fire Department in cooperation with the Gustine Fire Department ran a total of 14 calls from March 15 to March 19. The calls included eight for Emergency Medical Services, three vehicle collisions, one public assist, one emergency stand-by and one call for hazardous conditions.
The hazardous condition call was due to a fence company digging through a gas line that cause precautionary evacuation of one city block. PG&E was able to pinch the gas line till it received a more permanent fix. No injuries to fire personnel or civilians.
Newman Fire Dept.
The Newman Fire Department responded to 24 calls for service from March 14 to March 19.
The calls included 18for Emergency Medical Services, one vehicle collision, two public assists, one smoke check call, one trash fire call and one vegetation fire call.
At 4:09 p.m. on March 16, the Newman Station was dispatched for a single-vehicle collision in the area of Hills Ferry Road and River Road. On arrival, the fire crew found a single vehicle off the roadway. The fire crew secured the vehicle and assisted the occupants. There are no injuries to report and damages were estimated at $8,000.
At 6:18 p.m. on March 17, the Newman Station was dispatched for a vegetation fire in the area of Highway 33 and Anderson Road. On arrival, the fire crew found a 20x20 area of vegetation fully involved with flames. The fire crew worked quickly to extinguish the fire. The cause of the fire is unknown and there were no damages to report.
