Jury convicts Newman man of sex crimes

The Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office announced recently that a Newman man was found guilty of several felony sex offenses.

Iran Kamakea, 20, of Newman, was convicted by a jury of rape, oral copulation of a person under 18, and possession of child pornography.

At trial, evidence was presented that Kamakea would have sexual intercourse with the victim, age 13, when the two were left alone. 

After repeated sexual encounters with Kamakea, the victim contacted law enforcement to let them know what was happening to her. 

During the investigation of Kamakea, detectives found child pornography on his phone. 

Kamakea was 18 at the time of his arrest in March 2022. He was initially arrested for lewd act with a minor under 14 by force or fear, advertise obscene material depicting minors, possession of obscene matter involving minor, sexual intercourse with a minor under 18, sex with a minor that’s more than three years younger, and oral copulation with a minor under 14 years.

Kamakea is set to be sentenced in March. Deputy District Attorney Ney Montenegro prosecuted the case on behalf of the People.
