A single vehicle collision involving a pickup truck and a tree on River Road resulted in the death of a Los Banos man.

The collision happened around 12:15 a.m. on Jan. 31 on River Road, south of Kelley Road.

The 59-year-old Los Banos man was driving a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 eastbound on River Road at an undetermined speed. For an unknown reason, the driver allowed the vehicle to veer to the left, onto the north dirt shoulder, where it struck a large tree, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The driver was pinned inside the pickup truck and had to be extricated by emergency personnel. He was rushed by ambulance to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto with major injuries. He was pronounced deceased later at 9:15 p.m.

It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were factors in the collision.
