Newman man dies in solo crash

A 36-year-old Newman man was killed in a single vehicle collision when his vehicle crashed into an irrigation ditch in the Los Banos area, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The name of the deceased was not available from the Fresno County Coroner’s Office

The man was driving a 2002 Honda southbound on Russell Avenue, north of Interstate 5 around 8:45 p.m. Jan. 8.

He was traveling at an undetermined speed, when for an unknown reason, he allowed the vehicle to go off the east side of the road where it crashed into an empty irrigation ditch, according to the CHP.

The man was not wearing his seat belt and sustained fatal injuries. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor in this crash and this crash is still under investigation.
