A Gustine man suspected of robbing a Newman story with a shotgun, stealing cash and lottery tickets, was caught shortly thereafter with the assistance of K9 Gizmo, the Newman Police Department reported.

At 11 p.m. on Oct. 9, the Newman Police Department dispatched officers to Newman Foods at 1505 N Street for a report of an armed robbery.

The clerk reported that a Hispanic male entered the store armed with a shotgun and demanded cash and lottery tickets. He then fled the store on foot with the cash and tickets, according to the police department.

Officers searched the area and located a man matching the armed subject’s description, as viewed on the store’s video surveillance system.

The subject, later identified as Daniel Bueno, 38, of Gustine refused to stop and began running. He was eventually apprehended by K9 Gizmo in the 700 block of Fresno Street.

Bueno was transported to a local hospital for treatment from injuries sustained during the capture.

Officers recovered the cash, lottery tickets, a shotgun and pepper spray.

Bueno has been charged with robbery, possession of tear gas by a felon, possession of a firearm by a felon and resisting arrest.
