Newman Police
The Newman Police Department received 72 calls for service and reported 117 officer-initiated calls for a total of 189 incidents from Jan. 19 to Jan.25.
There were 26 cases opened and 17 arrests. The department issued 13 traffic citations, six criminal citations and eight parking citations. Five vehicles were towed.
Auto thefts
A 2000 utility trailer that had been reported stolen on Jan. 12 in Modesto was located in the 500 block of Crow Hill Drive in Newman on Jan. 19. Jose Lopez Cervantes was contacted near the trailer and upon investigation was arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft and possession of a stolen vehicle.
A 2008 black 1200 Sportster Harley Davidson was reported stolen on Jan. 19 in the 600 block of Fig Lane.
Burglary and vandalism
Three Newman teenage boys were arrested on Jan. 23, for allegedly breaking into two new construction homes in the 1000 block of Souza Court. According to the Newman police Department, the teens gained entry into the homes by forcing open the sliding glass doors. There was damage to the sheet rock and several holes in the walls. The damages were estimated at $1,300.
Arrests
Jose Lopez Cervantes, 25, of Tracy was arrested on Jan. 19 for vehicle theft and possession of a stolen vehicle.
Angel Barraza, 33, of Winton was arrested on Jan. 19 for driving on a suspended license.
Alejandro Abarca-Diaz Barriga, 40, of Modesto was arrested on Jan. 20 for displaying false plates.
Jose Munoz, 44, of Modesto was arrested on Jan. 20 for driving on a license suspended for DUI.
Floyd Snell, 56, of Newman was arrested on Jan. 20 for evading a peace officer and obstructing and/or resisting a peace officer.
Juan Rivera Vega, 33, of Gustine was arrested on Jan. 21 for driving on a license suspended for DUI and a warrant.
Eduardo Parra, 32, of Newman was arrested on Jan. 22 for a warrant.
Rigoberto Cornejo, 45, of Newman was arrested on Jan. 22 for possession of controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
A 15-year-old Newman boy was arrested on Jan. 23 for burglary, vandalism and conspiracy.

Savannah Saldivar, 35, of Newman was arrested on Jan. 23 for being a prohibited person in possession of ammunition and possession of a controlled substance.
Robert Vincent, 37, of Newman was arrested on Jan. 23 for a warrant.
Guy Sequeira, 51, of Turlock was arrested on Jan. 25 for a hit and run causing injury and being an unlicensed driver.

Sounds of shots fired
A resident in the area of Sylvia Street and Manor Avenue reported hearing a multitude of gunshots coming from behind the homes at 7:21 a.m. on Jan. 20.
Disturbance
At 12:27 p.m. on Jan. 19, a woman called to report that her ex-boyfriend had broken her phone and slashed her rear driver side tire.
Arrests
Jessie Sotelo, 55, was arrested at 5:24 p.m. on Jan. 19 in the 400 block of 6th Avenue for warrants.
Cesar Calderon, 28, was arrested at 5:07 p.m. on Jan. 20 in the 200 block of 3rd Street for being under the influence of a controlled substance.
George Lewis Cerda, 61, was arrested at 2:26 p.m. on Jan. 22 in the 500 block of 6th Street for a warrant.
