Newman Police Department

The Newman Police Department received 48 calls for service and reported 99 officer-initiated calls for a total of 147 incidents from Feb. 28 to March 6.

There were 12 cases opened and eight arrests were made. The department issued four traffic citations, three criminal citations, five parking citations and towed two vehicles.

 

Parole Search

On Feb. 28, officers conducted a parole search of Jose De La Cruz in the 800 block of Bunting Lane while he was parked in his vehicle. During the search, they found a Milwaukee knife sheath in his right pocket and a red fixed blade over two inches long on the driver’s seat, near where his right leg had been before exiting the vehicle. Officers then continued their search of De La Cruz’s person and discovered a plastic bag inside his vest containing a white substance believed to be methamphetamine.

Additionally, officers found more of this suspected methamphetamine loosely stored in the outside chest pocket of his vest. The combined total of the white substance was approximately two grams. De La Cruz was arrested without incident and booked on charges related to the possession of a controlled substance and a weapon.

 

Vandalism

On March 4, officers were dispatched to the local Nob Hill Foods in response to a report of vandalism. Witnesses observed Kenneth O’Farrell vandalizing a red Chevrolet Blazer in the store's parking lot. The owner of the vehicle identified O’Farrell, citing prior history and having seen him near the vehicle shortly before the incident. The damages to the vehicle were estimated at $3,000. Officers later located and arrested O’Farrell without incident, and he was subsequently booked.

 

Arrests

Armando Anaya Martinez, 50, of Newman was arrested on Feb. 28 for driving on a suspended license for DUI and warrants.

Jose De La Cruz, 41, of Newman was arrested on Feb. 28 for violating parole and possession of a controlled substance.

Miguel DeLeon, 75, of Newman was arrested on March 1 for a warrant.

Kenneth O’Farrell, 63, of Newman was arrested on March 4 for vandalism.

Talan Hardy, 18, of Newman was arrested on March 5 for Vandalism, conspiracy, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and being an unlicensed driver.

A 13-year-old Newman boy was arrested on March 5 for obstructing or resisting a peace officer.

 

Gustine Police Department

Stolen Vehicle

A vehicle theft was reported at 10 p.m. on Feb. 28 in the 100 block of North Avenue.

 

Arrests

Danae Chantel Bovee, 28, was arrested at 4:41 p.m. on March 3 in the 400 block of 5th Street for possession of unlawful paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance, petty theft and a probation violation.

Ismael Hernandez, 37, was arrested at 5:01 a.m. on March 6 in the area of 4th Avenue and 5th Street for burglary and vandalism.
