Police calls Oct. 11 to Oct. 17

Newman Police Department

The Newman Police Department received 69 calls for service and reported 42 officer-initiated calls for a total of 111 incidents from Oct. 11 to Oct. 17.

There were 15 cases opened and five arrests. The department issued three traffic citations, one criminal citation, three parking citations and towed five vehicles.

 

DUI

On Oct. 13 the Newman Police Department dispatched officers out to Jensen Road and Highway 33 for a report of a collision.

At the scene officers found a Cadillac with major damage to the front and Nissan with significant damage to the rear and the passenger side.

The driver of the Cadillac had complaints of pain and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.

The driver of the Nissan, Adan Anaya Saavedra, 23, of Washington, was showing signs of being under the influence and was given field sobriety tests after he stated he did not need medical attention.

Citing his poor performance with the field sobriety tests and a BAC of .25 percent, Saavedra was placed under arrest. Prior to being taken to the jail, Saavedra was taken to a hospital for a medical clearance. At the hospital they found a crumpled Modelo beer can hidden in his pants.

He was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail on charges of felony DUI causing bodily injury and DUI of .08 or more causing bodily injury.

 

Arrests

Favian Monarrez, 26, of Newman was arrested on Oct. 12 for DUI.

Cesar Montes Garcia, 55, of Newman was arrested on Oct. 12 for obstructing and/or resisting a peace officer.

Angel Dominguez, 37, of Modesto was arrested on Oct. 13 for obstructing and/or resisting a peace officer, a probation violation and being under the influence of a controlled substance.

Adan Anaya Saavedra, 23, of Washington was arrested on Oct. 13 for DUI with bodily injury and DUI of .08 or more with bodily injury.

 

 

Gustine Police Department

Narcotics

The Gustine Police Department investigated a report of narcotics sales after a student at Gustine Middle School was found with a small bag of marijuana on Oct. 17. The student told authorities that an adult was forcing him to sell it at school. The investigation is ongoing.

 

Arrests

Michael Alexander Galindo, 25, was arrested at 11:40 a.m. on Oct. 17 in the 27800 block of Carnation Road for threatening crime with intent to terrorize, aggravated battery, vandalism, aggravated elder cruelty and disorderly conduct.
