Scammers trying to profit off holiday event
scam

Officials in Gustine have issued a warning about scammers posing as city representatives and taking money for the upcoming Christmas events.

Both the City of Gustine and the Gustine Police Department have received reports of a scammer posing as a city official on social media and taking payments for vendor spots at the upcoming Downtown Christmas event.

The Downtown Christmas event is organized by the Gustine Chamber of Commerce and they are not collecting vendor money via social media. Nor is the city collecting any vendor money for them. All vendor applications and payments should be submitted to the Gustine Chamber of Commerce through their office or by their Venmo account.

To make sure the payment is going to a legitimate account, it’s recommended that people call the Chamber at (209) 854-6975 or (209) 587-0810.
