In a remarkable act of compassion and community spirit, Barrington Elementary School’s fifth-grade students are spearheading a supply drive to benefit the Newman Animal Shelter.

Running from Nov. 4 through Nov. 22, the drive seeks to gather essential items like dog food, cat food, treats, cat litter, and toys to support the shelter’s ongoing efforts to care for animals in need.

The project has already created a buzz in the community, drawing attention to the needs of the shelter and inspiring others to get involved. Brianna Athieny, Supervisor of the Newman Animal Shelter, expressed her gratitude for the initiative:

“The supply drive is so very appreciated. It is awesome to see young students getting involved in the community and wanting to help our shelter animals. I have had several students come up to me to let me know about the supply drive and ask what the shelter needs. Our small town has such a tight-knit community, and working together is essential for our success.”

The Fifth Grade Eagles, as the students are called, have taken this project to heart, reflecting the values of empathy and teamwork. Their efforts not only aim to meet the shelter’s practical needs but also serve as a powerful reminder of how even the youngest members of a community can make a meaningful impact.

Large bags of all age dog food is highly appreciated by the shelter. Other supplies that are helpful are flea medicine, dewormer, Nylabones, and Kong toys.

Donations can be dropped off at the Barrington School office or handed to a fifth-grade student. As the community comes together to support this drive, the students’ leadership and dedication shine as an example of how small acts of kindness can create a ripple effect of positivity.
