Counties looking for a few good people to serve on boards, commissions

Election season is in full swing with just over 90 days until Americans all across the nation will enter voting booths on Nov. 5 to cast their ballots.

And while running for elected office is one of the highest forms of public service, it’s simply not for everybody.

Still, if you’ve ever wanted to serve your community, but were not keen on the idea of campaigning, there are opportunities for you.

The Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors is seeking applicants to fill openings on various boards, commissions and special districts.

Positions that are not district specific include:

 

  • Assessment Appeals Board (3 positions) — One alternate CPA representative, one alternate attorney rep, and one alternate appraiser rep.
  • Building Code Appeals Board (3) — One specialty contractor rep, one general contractor, and one engineer rep.
  • Child Abuse Prevention Council of Stanislaus County (7) — Contact the council at 209-558-2305 for qualifications.
  • East Stanislaus Resource Conservation District (3) — Three district representatives.
  • Fire Code of Appeals (1) — One general contractor rep.
  • Indigent Health Care Program Fair Hearing Board (2) — One physician practicing in Stanislaus County, and one health care professional rep.
  • In-Home Supportive Services Advisory Committee (2) — Provider or former provider of IHSS rep.
  • San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District Citizens Advisory Committee (1) — One industry/agriculture alternate rep.
  • Stanislaus County Agricultural Advisory Board (1) — Resource conservation district rep.
  • Stanislaus County Behavioral Health Board (2) — One non-user rep, and one at-large rep.
  • Stanislaus Child Development Local Planning Council (5) —Three discretionary and two consumer reps.
  • Stanislaus County Equal Rights Commission (3) — Three at-large reps.
  • Stanislaus County Community Health Center Board (8) — Four user reps, and four non-user reps.
  • Stanislaus County Hazardous Waste Management Advisory Committee (4) — One ag-industry rep, one technical rep, one environmental rep, and one city representative (appointed by the City Selection Committee).
  • Stanislaus County Local Task Force on Solid Waste Management (3) — Two reps of industry, and one community-based organization rep alternate.
  • Stanislaus County Parks and Recreation Commission (1) — At-large rep.
  • Stanislaus County Workforce Development Board (3) — Three qualifying reps (call 209-558-2114 for qualifications).
  • Stanislaus Regional Housing Authority (1) — Tenant rep.

District 5 Supervisor Channce Condit has seven openings on four different bodies. Three are in empire. One is for the Stanislaus County Parks and Recreation Commission, two for the Storm Drain District 8 and one for the Turlock Mosquito Abatement District.
