Bill (B.J.) Wright, M.D.

Bill was 72 years old when he passed away peacefully on February 21,2024. He was born on July 15,1951 to Billy Joe and Viva Wright in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Cancer took him in a matter of less than six months. He was comfortable, at peace and right with God. Bill was the kindest and best person, so giving to so many people, it was unreal. As he would say, Wow! He impacted so many lives.

Bill went to Gustine High School in 1969. He was an outstanding back for the Gustine Redskins Football Team, leading the Trans Valley League in rushing in 1968 and was named offensive player of the year. Bill was named to the All Merced Area All Star Squad in 1968.

Bill went on to attend Modesto Junior College and graduated with Honors from the South Dakota School of Pharmacy in 1975. He graduated from the University of South Dakota School of Medicine with a M.D. degree in 1980. He received Emergency Medicine Specialty Residency training at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas and the University of Texas Medical Branch in Houston, Texas. Bill received Emergency Medicine Specialty Board Certification in 1988 and recertification in 1998. Bill practiced at Christus Mother Frances in Tyler, Texas until Sept.11 of 2023.

Bill was preceded in death by his father Billy Joe Wright, his mother Viva Mae Wright and his sister JaQuita Rodrigues. He is survived by his children, Kasey Aulbrook (Mason), Dominick Wright M.D. (Amber) his grandchildren, Kailyn, Grant and Kinsley, his beloved dog Malibu and several grand dogs. His sisters, Virginia Morgan (Bruce), LaJuana Graham (Mike), Sherrill Appleyard (Randy) and Fern Wear (Rick). He will be missed by all.

Bill had an enormous, big heart and generous spirit. He offered his help to family, friends and anyone in need. Bill enjoyed football, cars, jeopardy but most of all his family and his precious dog, Malibu.

His wish was for everyone to remember the good times with him. When you think of him, smile and say “WOW”, he gave me some great memories. Bill requests donations be made to Gustine High School football team for all the great memories he made there.
