Edwin E. Souza passed away surrounded by his family on February 1, 2025, in Modesto. He was 91 years old.
He was born on November 4, 1933, in Gustine to Manuel F. and Mary V. Souza. He attended local schools and graduated from Gustine High School. He enlisted in the United States Army, serving in Germany. After returning to Gustine, he began a life long career of truck driving, hauling cattle for Westside Auction Yard and then driving truck for Souza’s Milk Transportation for 35 years. He retired for two years only to go back and haul cattle and nuts for another ten years.
He was always known for his quick wit and jokes. If you could not find him at home all you had to do was look at The Grill or Yancy Lumber Yard where he was a regular fixture. Edwin was the family historian, all it took was to ask a question about someone and he was quick to tell you who, when, and where.
He is survived by his children, son, Mark Souza; daughter, Julianna Souza , both of Gustine; brother, Anthony (Butch) Souza; sister, MaryAnn Watson, both of Gustine; 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Frances Souza and his parents, Manuel F and Mary V. Souza.
A Visitation will be held at 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, with a Rosary starting at 6:00 pm, Thursday, February 13th, at Hillview Funeral Chapel in Gustine. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, February 14th at Shrine of Our Lady of Miracles in Gustine. Interment to follow at Hills Ferry Cemetery in Newman.
