“Frank Peter Martin, 103, greatly loved by family and friends and now greatly missed, passed away peacefully at home, February 21, 2025. Born to Joe & Maria Trovao, the 6th of 10 children on March 20, 1921, in Gustine, California. Served in the U.S. Army during WW II from September 1942 to January 1946 and then became an active member of the American Legion.
After returning home from the service, he married his childhood sweetheart, Angie Ramos in May 1946 and moved to Fresno, CA, where they raised their son, Carl, and daughter, Marilyn. He lost his wife, Angie, after 34 years of marriage in November 1980. He worked at a feed mill for 36 years, retiring as a Mill Supervisor with Zacky Farms in 1982. In 1981 he attended the Romero School 1936 - 1941 class year reunion, where he rekindled his relationship with Ines Mattos. They married in April 1983, and Frank moved back to his hometown of Gustine, CA. Frank lost his wife, Ines, after 37 years of marriage in April 2020.
Frank loved hunting in his teenage and adult years, with his brothers and friends. He loved being outside, taking care of his beautiful roses and tending to his vegetable garden. He was so excited for the times when family and friends would stop by just to say hello and smell the roses. He also had a lifelong passion for baseball and in his later years, he would never miss watching his favorite team, the Oakland A’s. Frank enjoyed his volunteer work as docent of the Gustine Museum for more than 20 years!
Frank is survived by his two children, son Carl Martin, daughter Marilyn and husband Jerry Anderson. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Lori, Jeff, David, Michelle, and great-grandchildren, Leland, Addie, Mila, Elsie, and Jude. He is also survived by stepchildren, Buz Mattos and wife Joyce, Jeanette Schouten, Tim Mattos and companion Diane, and Rosemary Fretia. Also, survived by many step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Serenity Funeral home on March 10th. The memorial Service will be held at Our Lady of Victory Church in Fresno, CA on March 11th, 2025, following interment at St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery. Family and friends will gather for a Celebration of Life at The Veterans of Foreign Wars.”
