Joni was born on April 1st 1954 to Glen and Freida Menzel in Gustine, California. After fighting a courageous battle with cancer, she was called home to The Lord surrounded by family at her home on November 29, 2024.
As a child she grew up on a ranch in rural Gustine with her parents Glen and Freida and older brother Tom. She attended Romero School with her best friend, Cathy (Cardoza) Mendonca during her childhood. When she was a teen, she attended Gustine High School. During that time her sister Tina was born. Joni graduated from Gustine High in 1972. That year after graduating, she married the love of her life, John Martin Ribeiro on September 30th. They just recently celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary. In 1977, she and John had their first child, John Jr., followed by their second child, Julie in 1980. Her kids meant the world to her. John and Julie were fortunate that Joni was able to be a homemaker during their childhood, spending valuable time with them. When they grew older, she began working at L&L Market and H₂O To Go. Later she worked at Diamond Food Center and lastly at Nob Hill Foods, from where she retired in 2018. She was known for always having a smile and carrying a friendly conversation while either checking, working in the bakery or deli at the stores. In 2005, her grandson Jackson was born and she was the epitome of an amazing grandmother. Any time she spoke of him, she had a smile worth a million dollars.
Joni loved her friends and family immensely. She liked to sit and visit, either in person or catching up on the phone. Joni made lifelong friendships with some of her coworkers, keeping in touch with them on a regular basis. Joni enjoyed being outside. She loved visiting the ocean, especially Monterey with her husband. She enjoyed getting fresh air and going on morning walks. Later in life, even though she was just learning to play, she liked playing dominos with her group of friends. Joni loved listening to music. Some of her favorite musicians were Eric Clapton, Bob Seger, The Eagles, and The Grateful Dead.
Joni was preceded in death by her parents, Glen H. Menzel and Freida D. Menzel, her father and mother-in-law John and Antoinette Ribeiro, and her sister-in-law, Antoinette Ribeiro.
