Patricia Bunker Maguire

The world lost a beloved mother, grandmother and friend Patricia Bunker Maguire of Sunnyvale, California, passed away on August 9, 2024. She was born on November 5, 1932 in Gustine, CA to John Pfitzer Bunker and Margaret Diehl Bunker. She lived a wonderful long 91 years and we are forever grateful that she did not experience pain and suffering.

She went to Gustine High School and Notre Dame High School in Belmont and graduated in 1950. Then she dedicated herself to a life of prayer in her early years where she was known as Sister Marie Christine with the Sisters Of Notre Dame from 1951-1967. Later Patricia met the love of her life James Thomas Maguire. They had two wonderful children together (Kathleen and Douglas). Patricia found profound peace and purpose in her religious vocation, where she was a primary school teacher.

After her time as a nun, Patricia continued to lead a life filled with being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and caring friend. Additionally, Patricia had a passion and love for learning about genealogy, particularly about her ancestry, which was a true enjoyment for her. She enjoyed singing in the church choir over the years and cherished traveling and exploring the world, embracing the beauty and diversity of different cultures and landscapes.

Patricia is survived by her son, Doug Maguire; daughter, Kathleen Maguire Byrnes; and grandchildren, Jaclyn and Torin Byrnes, and her sister Ann Bunker Wieser of Lodi, CA. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, James Thomas Maguire and her long term close friend Joe Zucca, her parents John Pfitzer Bunker and Margaret Diehl Bunker of Gustine, CA.

A service to celebrate Patricia’s life will be held at the Shrine of our Lady of Miracles, 370 Linden Avenue, Gustine, CA 95322, on August 23, 2024, at 12:00 PM. Her life, marked by devotion and discovery, will be remembered fondly by those who knew her.
