This evening I read the letters and opinions on Measure A and the West Side Healthcare District board elections. I have some information and opinion for folks to consider and I appreciate the opportunity to get them out.
Mr. Brazil, the current President of the board, is endorsing the incumbent board member Shaun Felber. Mr Felber is well known in the community and part of a legacy family in our town. Mr. Felber is an accomplished businessman. Mr. Felber has also never worked in Emergency Medical Services. As stated, he is a current sitting board member at a time when a slew of bad decisions have left the district in a precarious situation.
As the district asks for more money, for the second election in a row, it makes more sense to elect new members to the board. Election of someone with equal measures of business sense, roots in the community, and EMS experience. Fortunately for us that candidate has placed his name on the ballot.
Bob Vargas is a long-time paramedic. He serves on the Fire Department and a transporting ambulance. Bob Vargas worked for West Side Ambulance for many years. During that time there were no staffing problems. No downed ambulances. A quarter million dollars plus per year in management staff, that we have now, was not needed. Let's get West Side back to basics. Back to the elite EMS unit it once was. Elect Bob Vargas to the WSHD Board of Directors on Nov 5th.
