Reds huddle to start the 2nd quarter off on a strong note. The team fought hard but took a 28-14 loss against the Le Grand Bulldogs.

Last year, when the Gustine Reds met the Le Grand Bulldogs in October it resulted in a loss. On Oct. 18, the two teams squared off again but the result was the same with Le Grand posting a 28-14 victory over the Reds.

In the last three meetings with Le Grand, Gustine has taken the loss.

“We had mistakes, so we just need to fix them and we will be better,” said Gustine Coach Collin Lane.

Le Grand was the first to score with a rushing touchdown from Gustine’s 20-yard line and then made the extra point to take a 7-0 lead.

After the kickoff, Gustine was at their own 41-yard line and from there made a big play when Alex Quezada caught a pass from quarterback Daniel Navarro and ran it in for a touchdown. The point after was good, tying the score at 7-7.

Gustine intercepted the ball in the first but was unable to turn into points. The team wouldn’t add to the score until the fourth quarter when Crus Correa rushed into the endzone.

Le Grand’s win was fueled by Jonathan Benavidez, who posted a career high of 111 rushing yards.

Gustine now has a record of 3-5 in league.

The Reds will face the Stone Ridge Christian Knights in an away game at 7:15 p.m. on Friday.
