The Gustine Reds’ softball team got to add another W to their record, but also a loss after they split games against Denair and Delhi last week.
The Reds lost to Denair, 14-8 and defeated Delhi 13-8.
Gustine had lost three straight at home, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 6-10 to make it four. They lost 14-8 to the Denair Coyotes. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Coyotes this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-0 back in March.
Jaclynn Lopez and Jacqueline Chavez stepped up to the plate in a big way. Lopez went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double, while Chavez went 4-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Juliana Martinez, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Denair, Gustine was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Delhi Hawks by a score of 13-8. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 16-5 back in March.
Leilah Fara and Shandel Aguilera did most of the damage at the plate: Fara went 4-for-5 with four runs, three doubles, and three RBI, while Aguilera went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. Those four hits gave Fara a new career-high. Jacqueline Chavez was another key player, going 4-for-5 with two stolen bases and three runs.
Gustine's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-10.
Gustine will take on Pacheco at 10 a.m. on Thursday at home.
