Friday night lights continued for the Reds against Mariposa to check off their first league game of the season. And that check was in the win column.
The Gustine Reds quieted the Mariposa Grizzlies, 34-25, on Sept. 20 in front of the home town crowd.
The Reds domineered and led the whole game, showing that their hard work during the offseason is paying off on the field.
This was the second time the Reds have defeated the Grizzlies, posting a victory against them last season, when they met in September.
It also felt rewarding to start league off on good footing. However, the squad is casting their aim at improving.
“We played good but we didn’t play as good as we should have but we will work on those mistakes to play better,” said player Joao Palomino.
The Reds are now 3-1 this season and 1-0 in league and have been on a three game winning streak. They hope to continue the streak this week against Denair in their annual league matchup.
“I am definitely looking forward to getting better as we progress on to the middle of the season as a player and as a team” Palomino added.
Working in Gustine’s favor is a run of scoring that they have been posting. The team has posted at least 31 points in their last three games.
Denair is coming off of a tough loss against Stone Ridge Christian so the Reds will be looking to use that to compete as they travel there on Friday. Game time is at 5 p.m. for JV and 7:15 p.m. for varsity.
