The Reds girls’ volleyball team played Riverbank in their first home opener game of the season on Aug. 20. In a display of athleticism and teamwork, The Gustine Reds were able to come out of the game with the win. The match drew a lively crowd that witnessed a series of electrifying rallies and tense moments. Both teams displayed exceptional talent and strategy, but it was Gustine's ability to execute under pressure that ultimately secured the win.

The first and second matches were very close, being 25-20 showing off each team's talent and their effort to compete.

"Communication and teamwork were strengths that were shown in this game,” Varsity head coach Toni Adams said. “This year the seniors and junior are playing together again and they have great chemistry on and off the court. The communication and friendships off the court are brought to the court and I feel this is a huge strength.”

The final match ended with Gustine taking the win 25-18. The Reds were able to orchestrate the offense with precision and ensure that each set was executed flawlessly.

"I am very excited for the season and excited to watch these girls play as a team again. I believe they can go far this season and am encouraging them of this. If they put their hearts and talent into every game they will be successful,” Adams said.

Senior captain Shandel Aguilera was the standout performer, delivering a match-high 4 kills and being a great team leader. Another standout was sophomore setter Sokaiya Senaiya Him who is keeping up very well on the varsity level. "Both players are hard-working and work great together as a team" Adams added.

The Reds still plan to keep working to better themselves as individuals and as a team. Coach Adams plans to "be working on communication. Calling the ball and building strengths in serving and being able to finish a rally. Our biggest goal this year is to be able to play at our level. To be ourselves. A lot of the time the girls play at the level they play against but I know they can do very well this season if they stick to their game only"

The Reds next home game is Aug. 29 against Livingston.
