Orestimba High School’s baseball team struggles continue to pile on.
The Warriors lost their fourth consecutive game following a 7-4 road loss against Ripon High School on Friday at Mistlin Sports Park in Ripon, resulting in them getting swept in their series against the Indians.
Orestimba falls to 3-19 overall and remains winless in Trans Valley League (TVL) play with a 0-8 record.
In the first four innings, the Warriors didn’t look like the same team that lost 6-1 two days prior to Friday’s contest, as they led 2-1 heading into the fifth. At the top of the first inning, Orestimba got on the board following an RBI single that went down the middle. Ripon responded by scoring a run in the bottom of the second inning to tie the score.
In the top of the fourth, Orestimba regained their lead, 2-1, thanks to a single RBI that resulted in a run to home plate. However, Ripon eventually gained momentum and never looked back.
Early in the bottom of the fifth, Indians’ Jack Peters struck an RBI single to bring Josh Husband toward home plate, tying the game at 2-2. That run would ignite a four-run inning for the Ripon as they took their first lead after Hunter Weber brought an RBI single of his own to bring teammate Landon Espinola to home plate, 3-2. Orestimba’s fifth inning turned for the worse following an error from its catcher that allowed two Ripon runs to trail, 5-2, heading into the sixth inning.
While Orestimba did score a run in the top of the sixth, Ripon responded with two runs in the inning. Peters struck a ground ball down the middle for his second RBI of the afternoon, allowing Husband to give the Indians a 7-3 lead heading into the seventh inning. While the Warriors scored a run at the top of the seventh, it was not enough as Ripon went on to win the game and series.
Orestimba’s Ray Montes went three-for-three, three RBIs and a double hitter.
Head coach Harold Peeples said some mistakes, including errors cost the Warriors a chance to win Friday’s game.
“Had a little trouble locating, couple of walks led to a couple of errors with some scored runs that got them (Ripon) up,” Peeples said. “It came down to executing, moving guys over, getting a line drive, getting that big hit, we didn’t seem to be able to do it.”
As the regular season nears its end, the Warriors will host Ripon Christian High School on Wednesday at 4 p.m. to begin their two-game series. The series will conclude on the road against Ripon Christian the following day.
“I think the message has to be, regardless of win-loss record, … to continue to work hard and get better, both as a coaching staff and team,” Peeples said. “Hopefully, we get one or two [wins] down the road.”
