NEWMAN, Calif – On Saturday, the Orestimba High boys’ basketball team took a break from Trans-Valley League action to play a non-league road game.
Traveling to Stockton to take on Aspire Langston Hughes Academy High basketball squad, the Warriors ended the week with the host team pulled out a 57-51 win.
This was one of three games that Orestimba (0-3 in the TVL, 5-12 overall) had last week.
Hilmar 63, Orestimba 48
In a TVL game at Storm Gym on Friday, Orestimba held a 13-12 lead after the first quarter. Then host Hilmar outscored the Warriors 26-13 in the second quarter for a 38-26 halftime lead.
The Yellowjackets outscored Orestimba 25-22 in the second half.
Ripon 85, Orestimba 49
In a home league game on Jan. 14, the Warriors saw the visiting Indians take a 23-15 lead after the first quarter.
Ripon furthered its lead in the second quarter with a 25-16 run but only led 48-31 at halftime.
But the Indians’ defense was the factor in the third quarter, holding the Warriors to only four points while scoring 25 for a 63-35 lead entering the third quarter.
Upcoming games
On Tuesday, Orestimba hosted Hughson.
Then on Thursday, the Warriors welcome Ripon Christian for a league game, which is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
On Friday, Orestimba plays at Escalon. That game also has a 7 p.m. tipoff.
Moving to Monday, the Warriors take another break from TVL action, as it makes the Highway 33 drive south to play at Patterson. The Tigers are now members of the Valley Oak League after being in the Central California Conference from 2018-2024.
The Orestimba-Patterson game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start.
