NEWMAN, Calif. – One more game.

That is all that the Orestimba High girls flag football team, which are tri-champions of the Trans-Valley League title, need to advance into the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV title game.

Orestimba (21-6) is the No. 3 seed.

On Wednesday, Orestimba will host No. 7 seed Hughson (15-6), which won a share of the TVL title with the Warriors and Escalon. The game will be played at Warrior Stadium at 7 p.m. Hughson advanced to the semifinal game by beating another league school in No. 15 Hilmar by a 24-14 score.

Orestimba and Hughson split their TVL meetings last month. The Warriors posted a 26-25 win over the Huskies in Hughson on Oct. 23. Hughson won the first meeting with a 27-20 score on Oct. 7.

The winner of this semifinal game will take on the winner of the other semifinal game of No. 5 Escalon-No. 1 Colfax game, which is also being played on Wednesday.

The winners of the semifinal games will play for the D-IV title at Cosumnes River College in Sacramento on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.

Shutout wins

The latest playoff win came in the quarterfinals at Warrior Stadium on Halloween, where Orestimba blanked No. 11 Destiny Christian Academy, formerly Capital Christian, of Sacramento by the score of 34-0.

Before advancing to the quarterfinal game, Orestimba won its playoff opener, also at Warrior Stadium, against No. 14 Millennium by a 39-0 score on Oct. 29.

This is the second year of girls flag football has been a sanctioned sport in California. In early 2023, the California Interscholastic Federation, which is the governing body for high school athletics in the state, sanctioned girls flag football that started in the fall of the same year.
