Reds baseball get the better of Warriors

Gustine was on a streak when they notched another win, this time against Orestimba.

Gustine barely beat Orestimba the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Gustine Reds were the clear victor by a 9-3 margin over the Orestimba Warriors on Friday. The win was nothing new for the Reds as they're now sitting on three straight.

The Warriors have struggled against the Reds recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Jake Campbell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on two hits and racked up 14 Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Mike Saaranzin, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-3. He has become a key player for Gustine: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Alexander Quezada, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Orestimba saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Donovan Torres, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Gustine's victory bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Orestimba, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gustine will head out to take on Stone Ridge Christian at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Gustine is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season. As for Orestimba, they will challenge Le Grand at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
