A thriller game against SAL league opponent Denair Coyotes would end in the Reds’ favor, 51-43. Gustine, on Wednesday, persistently made shots that would quickly stump the Coyotes defense and had the crowd cheering.

“Kids executed,” said Gustine head coach Charles Roth. “Moved the ball well, wide open shots, which I have trust in the kids to knock them down. And it showed tonight.”

Execution is a great way to sum up the game. The Reds had been troubled with being confident on the court. But on Wednesday night the Reds were taking risks. Alex Quezada (23) would score a total of six 3-pointers, quickly becoming a problem for the Coyotes’ defense. Scoring 25-points for the Reds in total.

“We all chose each other with our shots. But, we just wanted it for each other so that’s why we trust each other and move the ball around. And we just kept playing to the last buzzer,” Quezada mentioned.

The Coyotes’ 6-foot-4 center, Koby Cervantes (35), is usually an issue for other teams. But the Reds were able to clamp on the Coyotes’ scheme and kept Cervantes to 9-points for the night.

“If we get down, I’m not worried about it, because it is a long game and you got to play possession by possession” Roth commented.

The Reds were able to overcome minor issues. This led them to playing at a level which was out of their comfort zone. A scheme that Roth has been trying to communicate.

This week, the Reds are set to play against SAL league opponents. Delhi will travel to Gustine High at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. Then the most anticipated rival matchup of the week, Orestimba vs. Gustine. The Reds will travel to Orestimba High at 7 p.m. on Friday.
